Lime Street Line Closed for eight weeks – update for Warrington Commuters

Liverpool Lime Street station closes from Saturday for two months as part of a £340m railway investment in the Liverpool City Region. Warrington commuters will be hit as there will be no through services to Liverpool until the end of July.

The trains from Norwich and from Manchester Airport will turn round at Liverpool South Parkway, to connect with Merseyrail trains into the city, or a non-stop replacement bus service to Moorfields.

The local services calling at Padgate and Sankey will terminate at Hunts Cross, and there will be no Merseyrail service from Hunts Cross. Passengers may have to use a replacement bus to South Parkway, or to Lime Street calling at West Allerton, Mossley Hill and Edge Hill, but the trains from Manchester Airport to South Parkway (and some East Midlands trains) will call additionally at Hunts Cross for a rail connection at least every hour. The local trains may run to different times, particularly in peak hours. Northern Trains and East Midlands have their revised timetable on their websites, but unhelpfully neither includes the other’s services.

The trains from Bank Quay to Lime Street will not run at all, but from 11 June to 13 July, between 6am and 8pm, it will be possible to use Arriva Trains services between Bank Quay and Earlestown and connect to a direct train service between Earlestown and Lime Street (outside these periods trains on the Earlestown-Lime Street line will terminate at Huyton for a replacement bus service to Lime Street).

Lime Street will have two extra platforms and other improvements, and is scheduled to reopen on 30 July.

The greatest disruption will be on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June, when Network Rail closes the line all weekend to work on the new Warrington West station. It will be buses only between Warrington Central and Liverpool.
