Users of Bewsey Barn Community Centre can now look forward to the approaching winter thanks to the £15k investment Great Sankey Parish Council have made towards upgrading the heating system and also installing a brand-new floor throughout the Centre.

Jack and Jill Pre-school, Bingo Club, Indoor Bowls Club, Rainbows and Cadets who all run regular classes from the Centre are delighted with the upgrade.

Peter Watson Chairman of Great Sankey Parish Council said;

“Great Sankey Parish Council are proud of their Community Centres and we are committed to ensuring that the facilities we provide continue to be of a very high standard.

We are also very proud that the vast majority of groups who use our Centres are community based. We offer affordable ‘homes’ to groups that provide local residents with a wealth of opportunities to socialise, learn new skills and improve their well-being. Something that is important to us all”

Update on Parsonage Way Field

Great Sankey Parish Council are delighted to be able to announce that they have entered into partnership with Warrington Borough Council to deliver improvements to Parsonage Way Field.

During last August and September, Warrington Borough Council conducted a public consultation on behalf of the Parish Council. The consultation outlined proposed improvements, which at the time included improved drainage, a new boundary wall with entrance, a path, seating, landscaping and a children’s play area. One hundred and eighty-four residents took part in the consultation and 74% were in favour of the scheme.

Peter Watson, Chairman of Great Sankey Parish Council said, “Over the past ten months the Parish Council have been actively seeking funding opportunities to help to deliver the proposed scheme. This has proven quite a challenge as funding streams that were once available have now ended.”

“The Parish Council are committed to delivering an enhanced community asset, ensuring that our green spaces are welcoming and able to be accessed by all residents. With this vision in mind, we are very pleased that Warrington Borough Council have agreed to enter into partnership with us and we hope to start work early next year”

The improvements will include drainage to the field, a new boundary wall with entrance, a tarmac path to create better access for all, seating and planting. The funding secured does not include play equipment at this time and plans for this have been put on hold.

“We’re all now looking forward to seeing the transformation of the field into a valued green space where residents will have better access and be able to enjoy the planting” said Peter Watson

A future Defib & CPR training course is now being planned at Hood Manor Community Centre

A free CPR and Defibrillator training course was organised by Great Sankey Parish Council on Saturday 20th July at Hood Manor Community Centre.

The training session was open to anyone who was interested in attending and proved to be a big hit.

Peter Watson, Chairman of Great Sankey Parish Council said

A special thanks is given to Ade an NHS Medic, who ran the course. The main aim of the session was to give those who attended the skills and confidence to use a defibrillator and perform CPR. It was a knowledgeable and enjoyable session, which potentially could save someone’s life.

Statistics show that if a defibrillator is used within 3 to 5 minutes of someone having a cardiac arrest, survival rates can be as high as 50–70%. Each minute of delay to defibrillation reduces the probability of survival by 10%, this is why access to public defibrillators is so important.

Due to the positive response, the Parish Council will be running a three-hour comprehensive session later on in the year at Hood Manor Community Centre.

Please keep a look out on the Parish Council’s website and Facebook page for further updates.

Would you like to be involved in planning a Great Sankey Community Event?

Community Meeting September 2019 – Date, time and location to be confirmed

The Parish Council would like to invite you to an open Public Community Meeting to discuss possible future community events within Great Sankey.

Currently the Parish Council organises Great Sankey Summer Fun Day and also funds the Christmas tree at Chapelford. Both are very successful, and feedback indicates they are valued by our community. We do however feel it is appropriate to discuss the potential for involving our community groups within the planning of the Fun Day or other potential events. We would like to hold an open meeting to consider this further.

If you have any ideas that you’re keen to discuss with the Parish Council, or are interested in becoming involved then please register your interest by 23rd August by contacting the Parish Office either by e-mail [email protected] or telephone 01925 712279.

The Parish Council will then contact you by the end of August to confirm the meeting date, time and location.

Lifesaving defibrillator installed at Hood Manor Community Centre

Great Sankey Parish Council have installed a defibrillator outside their Hood Manor Community Centre at Dorchester Road shops to give members of the local community access to the potentially life-saving device.

The wall mounted defibrillator can be used by members of the public at any time to aid someone in cardiac arrest.

After phoning 999 an ambulance operator will give a code to open the box where the defibrillator is housed and also instruct people without experience on how to use it safely and effectively.

A CPR and Defibrillation training course has been arranged for any community member who wishes to attend on Saturday 20th July from 12pm to 1.30pm at Hood Manor Community Centre. All people have to do to book their place is either e-mail the Parish Council on [email protected] or telephone 01925 712279.

A public meeting regarding this, will be organised by the Parish Council for early September.

21st May and 1st June – Learn to be a Lifesaver with free Defibrillator training

The Parish Council recently purchased and fitted an automated external defibrillator at Tim Parry Community Centre and are now pleased to be working with North West Ambulance Service to offer free lifesaving training on how to use the device. Great Sankey Parish Council – Where Will Your Money Go?

Great Sankey Parish Council aims & objectives

Great Sankey Parish Council is continuing to invest in its five community centres to keep them to a high standard providing affordable facilities for community groups and small organisations. The council also manages several green spaces within the parish and believes it is important to make the most of these areas for residents to enjoy, especially given the expansion in housing in the parish.

Additionally, the council has approved an annual budget for wildflowers for 27 plots throughout the parish, will continue funding Sankey Fun Day and the Christmas tree in Chapelford, and will extend the low-cost summer playscheme to a second venue due to the success of the 2018 scheme.

2019-20 Precept Rise

For the number of facilities the parish council operates, the precept for Great Sankey residents is relatively low; currently set at £34.51 per Band D property for the year. In 2013/14, the responsibility for Council Tax Support was transferred from Central Government to Local Government and from April 2019, Warrington Borough Council will pass on the reduction in tax base to parish councils. For Great Sankey Parish Council, this will result in a loss of £20,948 in the amount of precept received if the Band D rate remains the same. Given the general inflation in operating costs for the community centres and the continued investment in the parish, this represents a significant loss in income for the council which would have a negative impact on the council’s ability to fulfil its commitments. It was therefore decided to raise the precept to £45.90 per Band D property per annum (equivalent to 22p per week).
